a blue barrel of apples

I was so happy when Betty asked me to make one of the samples for today color challenge at SCS!  Color challenge are one of the best ways for stampers to stretch their creative muscles because often it involves working with colors and combinations of colors you normally don’t use.

The  colors of the challenge are Wild Wasabi, Cherry Cobbler and Marina Mist.   Ok – now the panic sets in because I have none of these colors, until I remember that the colors are reference points and it’s ok to use colors you have  that are closest to these.

So, I took a look at the SU catalog to get an idea of the colors and went to work.  Here is my card.

I started with a cute barrel of apples from a GinaK set and figured why not make the barrel blue?  The deep red and blue color combo works well.  There is just a touch of green on the leaves of the apple.

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with copic markers.    For the apples I used R89, R37 and R0000.  On the barrel I used BG72, B21 and BG0000.  The leaves were colored with VG03 and the shaded area at the bottom with C1.

Both the sentiment and diamond pattern were stamped using Memento Rhubarb Stalk.  The sentiment is from the same GinaK set as the apples, the diamond is from Papertrey.

Finishing everything off is a red/white gingham ribbon from JoAnns,  a cuttlebug swiss dot folder, nestabilities scallop oval and black pearls from Kaiser.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you have some time to participate in this weeks color challenge.
