tri fold treat box

I’ve always liked tri fold cards and started thinking about doing a tri fold box for holiday treats or gifts.  Playing around with some 12 x 12 holiday paper I worked on a couple of scenarios and finally came up with this box:

It measures about  3.25 wide, 8.25 long and 1.25 high and is perfect for homemade fudge or other specialty candies or  you may even be able to fit a tie inside.  If you have crafty friends you can fill it with buttons and other embellishments.

Supplies used:

  • One 12″ sheet of double sided holiday cardstock (Little Yellow Bicycle’s Winter Wishes used here).
  • One 8.5 x 11 sheet of kraft cardstock
  • red cardstock for scalloped edge, white cardstock for sentiment
  • Sentiment stamp (Papertrey stamp used here), label die (Spellbinders used here),   red ink (Memento Rhubarb Stalk)  ribbon, scallop border punch, scoring tool, adhesive

Take your holiday cardstock and cut it down to 8.25 x 12.  (Note:  shown here is the reverse side of the cardstock).  Save the leftover strip – you will be using that later.  Score the cut paper at 3″ and 4 3/8″, turn paper and score again at 3: ad 4 3/8″.  Fold on score lines and set aside.

Take your kraft cardstock and cut it down to 10.5 x 5 6/8.  Score at 1.25″ on each side.  Fold at score lines and cut tabs as shown.

Cut down the leftover strip  of holiday cardstock to fit inside the kraft box.  Adhere to the bottom of the box, tape side flaps to create the box.  Set aside.

Use a scallop border punch on a strip of red cardstock (about 7.5″ long and roughly 3″ wide.  This strip will be taped to the top panel on the inside.  Also cut a strip of red cardstock the same length and about 1/2″ wide – this will be used on the front just to give a finished edge.

Tape the kraft box to the inside center panel of the holiday paper.

To finish it off I wrapped  a red ribbon around the box – I used a little double sided tape on the back to hold the ribbon in place.

Cut out a label from white cardstock with the spellbinders die and stamp the sentiment on it.  Attach to the front of the box with foam mounting tape or other pop dots.

Add fudge or other holiday treats and your gift is ready for giving!  You may want to line your box with parchment paper if you are giving edible items, unless they are already wrapped.
