Autumn Subway Art

A stamped sentiment along with a digi background makes a quick and easy card!

I just LOVE this background!  The typography, layout and colors all work so well together.  And guess what – it’s FREE!!  A free file from Pink Ink Doodle found HERE. This style is called  “subway art” and  she has several on her blog so be sure to check them all out.  This particular fall subway art looks good on a card but can also be used for decorations for a Halloween or Thanksgiving party.  You can also google “subway art” and find tons of images.

Once the card was assembled (I used SU cardstock) I wanted to stamp a simple sentiment in white.   Now, I have always had “issues” with white ink and embossing powder.  Without the embossing powder white ink is too opaque.  And I could never find a really bright white powder.  Sometimes, especially with smaller sentiments the embossing looked blurred, not crisp.    I gave up for years when I stumbled across some white EP in one of the craft stores, (I think Hobby Lobby) from Zing so I thought I would give it a try.

I am so glad I did!   I used versamark along with a Papertrey sentiment and the Zing white embossing powder.  It came out true white and the letters did not look blurred, but nice and crisp.

One other nice thing about this card is that it was made with scraps. I had a half sheet of card stock for the base and was able to print the digi art on a scrap piece of white cardstock. The mats are scraps from my stash. Not too long ago I went through my solid color scrap pieces and tossed anything that was smaller than a quarter of a sheet. That really cut down on the smaller pieces that never seemed to be used.    My intent is to go to the scrap file as much as possible before cutting a full sheet of cardstock.
