birthday stars

Hello friends!  How is your summer shaping up?  It’s been very hot here lately – and the humidity level on top of the high temperatures has made it difficult to do anything outside.  I hope you are staying cool wherever you are.

Today I am showing a cute birthday card – with a great background I cut with  my Silhouette!  First the card:

Now about that star background!!  I am taking an online Silhouette class with Kerri Bradford and love it.  If you are just starting out with this machine or have struggled to find your way around all the features I strongly suggest taking a class or two.  There are so many out there and I’ve found them well worth the money.  It will save to so much time and aggravation.  I stumbled across Kerri’s classes and am so glad I did.  The first one I took, called “Getting to Know You”, will get you started.  The second class that I am currently taking is called “Oh The Places You’ll Go” and one of the things she teaches is how to create your own backgrounds – completely from scratch!

We started with a blank file and first created this star in a circle background.   She went step by step on how to create the ring, bring in the star shape, group and weld it all together to create the full background.

Next, we created a different star within a circle, added it to the shape we created in the first step and did a background of alternating star/circle shapes.  This is the one I used for the background for the card.  You can make the backgrounds as large as your mat can accommodate.  Here each circle is about 1″ in diameter.

To finish the card I used some cute patterned paper from DCWV called The Birthday Wishes Stack.

Thanks for stopping by today!
