Sisterhood of Crafters

Hello crafty friends.  Today is the day where the Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge Blog starts a new challenge for the month.  Today’s challenge is to use dies.  Here is my card – my first Christmas card of the season.

I love this quilt die, but I have to admit it is a bit of a bear to work with.  I am only using part of the die – there are many smaller pieces surrounding the main star pattern, as well as a outline where you place all the pieces.  Like a jigsaw puzzle…which I was never really fond of!

The beautiful red paper is an old pattern called Lush from My Minds Eye.  The patterned paper is a velvet flock and is absolutely gorgeous.  I’ve hoarded my stash for years and make a couple of Christmas cards with it each year.  I only have a few sheets left of this and it will be hard when it is all used up!

This card will go to my older sister, who makes beautiful quilts.  This is about as close as I will get to making one!!

Hop on over to the Sisterhood of Crafters Blog and take a look at what the other designers have made and enter your own creation.  All the details can be found HERE.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Patches and Quilt Squares

Lately I’ve seen alot of cards using quilt-type squares, or patchwork and many of them include sewing.  I’m always impressed when I see sewing done on cards because I can’t sew to save my life!    I wouldn’t even know how to thread the needle on my sewing machine…..where is my sewing machine anyway???

patch quilt challenge final

Materials: Stamps: Flourishes Sweet Violets (sentiment); Paper: Cosmo Cricket (dp) SU - red, Flourishes - ivory; Ink: Palette L'Amore red; Other: ribbon, scallop punch

This card takes the patch/quilt square concept – but without the sewing!  All the designer paper is from Cosmo Cricket.  I took the bird patterened paper and just punched out squares around the design, then took a slightly larger scalloped punch and punched out red squares.  Everything was mounted on more Cosmo Cricket paper.  The sentiment, which is the only stamped section of the card, is from Flourishes Sweet Violets set.
